Sonia''s story

Message  sonny le Mar 19 Mai 2009 - 23:47

My story started in Xmas 2004. I went with my sister’s little girl (3 & 1/2 years old) to the sliding hill, she wanted to pull me on the sleigh, like I did to her, so I helped her be pushing myself with my harms in the back. When we came home I was a little sore both I figure it was normal because I used muscle I was not use to.
The week between Xmas & new year, my shoulder was painful, I thought I’m misplace a rib or a bone in my shoulder so I said to myself that I would go to the Chiropractor see if he can help me. I took ibuprofen will waiting till the doctors office opens. I took the earliest appointment to my family doctor (in 1 week), & I went to my Chiropractor to see if he could help me. My joint where to inflame so he could not do much. He told me to continue the ibuprofen & to put some ice on my shoulder to reduce the inflammation & he wanted to see me in 3 days, that I did but it was not better 3 days after. When went to my family doctor, he diagnose a tendonitis of the left shoulder, he prescribe Naproxen 375mg & suggested to do some Physiotherapy. So I did for about 7 months (1 to 2 session per week) after 7 moths of exercise, there was no improvement on my shoulder so he told me we would need to start a kind of exercise & start all over again. Physiotherapy was expensive so I stop the session.
In 2006, My family doctor found a rheumatologist in Montréal. I went with my Mom to see him. He checked me & said that he thinks I have S.A.P.H.O. but that I will need to pass some test before (blood test, MIR, X-Ray, CT-Scan, Nuclear test…).
Iask him what was S.A.P.H.O. because it was the fist time I heard about it. He told me ‘ You have internet? Go see.’ So I went to see I’ve collected a binder with information on S.A.P.H.O. and 1 month after my test, my Mom & I went to see him again. The test result confirm. So I ask him more question that my binder could not answer, he told me ‘You have the S.A.P.H.O. that’s all. If you want more information go see on the net.’ So I ask what treatment should I take? So first with Anti-inflammatory, then if no result, cortisone infiltration under CT-Scan, then if no result, Aredia infiltration. So I took different anti-inflammatory (indomethacine, Meloxicam, Surgan, Prexige.) no result. I took an cortisone infiltration in 2007, the first infiltration worked for 2 & ½ month so the Doctor prescribe more, I’ve took 3 other infiltration that did not work as well as the first so I did not go for more.
I continue to go see a Chiropractor for a some time, not just for my shoulder but they wanted to help.
In 2008 I start acupuncture session (total of 14 session in 1 & ½ month), it work for 1 month. I thought my assurance would pay a small part but they did not. So I did not go again.
In 2009, I started to search for more information on my condition. My boyfriend found this site & help me joined in. I saw my family doctor & he prescribe Tramacet to help with the pain. I will see him in June & I will ask him for the Aredia treatment what he thinks about that.

June 3rd, my doctor’s appointment. He got me an appointment with a new specialist, September 30th, & he changed my medication to Ralivia, that I will gradually increase from 100mg to 300mg if needed. That’s all for now.

OK here it is.

September 30th, I saw Dr Suzie Duff, Rheumatologist in Hawkesbury & Ottawa.

She examined my arm movement, she examined the difference between me clavicles & saw that my left was just a little bigger then right, & saw there was a problem at the joint clavicle & sternum.

She read the result of my test from2006 & saw certain conflict so she ask for more x-ray & blood to see if the results has changed.

I’ll see her again October 14th with a copy of my x-ray. We’ll see then what she decide to do.
